The nature scenery of Hunterdon County and the playfulness of the water attract people from near and far. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Trenton-Ewing, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. This is the only paddling stretch along Lockatong Creek. This section of Lockatong Creek in New Jersey is 13 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class III-IV section of whitewater. If you'll be staying in a hotel you're in luck, lodging is available very near the river, but do book a room
before you come because it is a very popular destination. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in New Jersey is often easier than elsewhere, so you'd better keep in mind that rivers here are less demanding. If you have the time you can make this a two day trip, so go ahead and pack
your camping stuff. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just being out on the river for a while are great attractions for lots of people.
Briefly about the general area: For the period of the summer at Lockatong Creek highs are generally in the 80's. Once the sun is down it descends down to the 60's. The winter brings highs down to the 30's, and night lows in the 10's for Lockatong Creek. Lockatong Creek gets a great deal of water; July is the wettest month with most rain, and February is the month with the least moisture.
