The Route 51 to Alt Route 511 stretch of Pequannock River in Passaic Morris County is 16 miles long and has been rated as a class II-IV section by American Whitewater. A good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors will make you glad you came. If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more forgiving, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that the rivers in this state are less demanding. There are
no other stretches to paddle along Pequannock River than the Route 51 to Alt Route 511 stretch. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling places. You
can enjoy this section more if you take your time, so pack your camp stove.
Briefly about the general area: The high level of rain makes Pequannock River a quite wet place; the month of August is the wettest with most of the rain; the driest month of the year is February. Summer brings highs in the 80's to Pequannock River with overnight lows in the 50's. Daytime highs all through the winter are in the 30's while the cold winter nights at Pequannock River are in the 10's.
