The wonderful Passaic Morris County scenery and the water flowing gracefully down Pequannock River will make you feel great. This stretch of Pequannock River in New Jersey is 16 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class II-IV section. There are no other stretches to paddle along Pequannock River than the Route 51 to Alt Route 511 stretch. Getting your paddling muscles activated and spending some quality time in nature will make you glad you came. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want
to stay the night, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this area has a large number of paddling places. The rivers for whitewater rafting
and kayaking here in New Jersey are often easier than in other states, so keep in mind that rivers here are less demanding. If you have the time you can make this a two day trip, so pack your camp stove.
Briefly about the general area: The high level of rainfall makes Pequannock River a quite wet place; during the month of August you get the most rain around here; February on the other hand is the driest. At Pequannock River through the summer highs are in the 80's. Summer overnight lows plunge down to the 50's. Through the winter highs are usually in the 30's, and after the sun is down during the wintertime temperatures at Pequannock River fall into the 10's.
