This stretch of Raritan River - South Branch in Hunterdon County is 2.6 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class III-IV section. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in New Jersey tend to be more forgiving than the national average, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that a large number of rivers in this state are quite easy. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. The beautiful scenery of Hunterdon County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle.
The starting location is a short drive from Trenton-Ewing, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. This is a somewhat short section so no need to bring snacks. A good workout and just being out on the river for a while are sure to keep
you coming back for more. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this is an area with plenty of places for that. There are many good hotels to choose from, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. There are a few other sections in this river system that can be paddled as well.
