  The scenic beauty of New Mexico and the water flowing gracefully down Animas River have people coming here. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in New Mexico are easier than the national norm, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that lots of rivers here are good for beginners. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are not so many other good spots for that around here. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. The starting location is a reasonable drive from
    Farmington, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. If you hurry you can run this section in a day but why not make it an overnighter, so why not pack your camp stove too. The campgrounds here at Animas River are pretty good. A good workout and just being
out on the river for a while have people coming from far and near. The Cedar Hill to Farmington City Park stretch of Animas River in New Mexico is 25 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class I-II section. There are so many stretches to paddle in this river system, the Cedar Hill to Farmington City Park stretch is just one of many.

Not much rain falls here at Animas River; through the month of August you get the most rain around here, and June on the other hand is the driest. Don't miss out on a
 
visit to Aztec Ruins National Monument since you're here at Animas River.
At Animas River throughout the summer months highs are in the 80's; the overnight is a bit chillier of course, regularly in the 40's. The cold days of the winter come with highs in the 30's, and nighttime lows through the winter for Animas River tend to be in the 0's.
