Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in New Mexico are easier than the national norm, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that lots of rivers here are good for beginners. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are not so many other good spots for that around here. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. If you hurry you can run this section in a day but why not make it an overnighter, so why not pack your camp stove too. The campgrounds here at Animas River are pretty good. A good workout and just being out on the river for a while have people coming from far and near. Don't miss out on a   visit to Aztec Ruins National Monument since you're here at Animas River. The cold days of the winter come with highs in the 30's, and nighttime lows through the winter for Animas River tend to be in the 0's.
