This section of Canadian River in Colfax County is 50 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class I-II section. The natural beauty of Colfax County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream will make you feel great. A bit of exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great reasons to come. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. A stretch of this length does require
some preparations, so it looks like you will be camping out. The Raton to Taylor Springs section is the only paddling section along Canadian River. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state are often easier than in other states, so keep in mind that many of the
rivers here are not very demanding.
Briefly about the general area: Summer brings highs in the 90's to Canadian River with night lows in the 50's. Highs all through the winter are mostly in the 40's, and nighttime lows at Canadian River throughout the winter commonly dip into the 10's. Not much precipitation falls here at Canadian River; most of the rain falls all through October while June is regularly the driest month.
