There's camping available near Jemez River. Great exercise and just hanging out with mother nature have people coming from far and near. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. The natural beauty of New Mexico and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. Whitewater paddling here in the San Juan and Jemez Mountains is a great experience. A stretch of this length does require some preparations, so
make sure you pack enough food along with your camping gear. There are no other stretches to paddle along Jemez River than the Battleship Rock to Zia Pueblo stretch. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside New Mexico you might find the rivers here a bit more manageable,
so keep in mind that many of the sections here are safe for beginners.
Briefly about the general area: Hiking along the Padre Alonzo Trail is great fun, and a cool spot to visit is Mesa de los Palomares. It is very dried out here at Jemez River regularly; most of the rain falls through August while May is the month with the least amount of precipitation. Coming to this river is always a good idea. If you like the outdoors you'll like it here in the San Juan and Jemez Mountains. If you're here, you might as well go to San Juan Canyon, and
a spree to Jemez River wouldn't be complete without taking a look at Las Vegitas Spring. For the period of the warm months highs here at Jemez River reach the 70's with overnight lows in the 40's. Daytime highs during the winter are in the 30's with temperatures at Jemez River dipping down into the 0's during winter nights.
