The wonderful New Mexico scenery and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water attract people from near and far. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in New Mexico are often easier than in other states, so don't forget that lots of rivers here are good for beginners. Jemez River doesn't have a lot of paddling stretches, the Battleship Rock to Zia Pueblo stretch is the only one. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up
quick. Getting your paddling muscles activated and a chance to spend some time outdoors have people coming from far and near. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. Now this is a pretty long section, perfect for a real wilderness adventure. The wild scenery of
the San Juan and Jemez Mountains is great.
Briefly about the general area: At this river you will never have a bad time. Hiking is a popular thing to do around Jemez River; Padre Alonzo Trail is a magnificent local trail, and you simply should go to Mesa de los Palomares since you're here at Jemez River. During the warm months at Jemez River highs are ordinarily in the 70's. Once the sun is down it plunges down to the 40's. For the period of the winter the highs are generally in the 30's; nighttime lows in the 0's for Jemez River. Around Jemez
River you don’t get a lot of rainfall; of all the months in a year August is the one with the most rain while May is ordinarily the driest month. Not enough hours in a day to enjoy the San Juan and Jemez Mountains. San Juan Canyon is a pleasant place to have a look at in close proximity to Jemez River, and do put some time aside to spend at Las Vegitas Spring since you're here at Jemez River.
