The natural beauty of New Mexico and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often easier than elsewhere, so you'd better keep in mind that many of the sections here are safe for beginners. When you're paddling down a San Juan Mountains river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too. Getting a good workout and spending some quality time in nature have a lot of people coming here. Jemez River doesn't have a lot of paddling sections, the Battleship
Rock to Zia Pueblo section is the only one. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. The campgrounds here at Jemez River are pretty good. A stretch of this length does require some preparations, so
make sure you pack enough food along with your camping gear.
Briefly about the general area: If you come to this river you will have a good time for sure. Not much rain falls here at Jemez River; most of the rain falls throughout August, and May on the other hand is the driest. That right there is plenty of fun things already but it goes on, the San Juan Mountains has it all. A visit to Las Vegitas Spring will fill your soul with great feelings; if you're hooked on cool geologic marks try Mesa de los Palomares. There are great places to
explore along the Padre Alonzo Trail, and Jemez River is near San Juan Canyon which is positively worth a visit. Summertime highs at Jemez River usually tend to be in the 70's. Once the sun is down it dips down to the 40's. Highs during the winter are frequently in the 30's, and overnight lows during the wintertime for Jemez River tend to be in the 0's.
