The Highway 515 to Dunn Bridge section of Red River is 14 miles long and has been rated as a class IV+ section by American Whitewater. The nature scenery of -blank- County and the water flowing gracefully down Red River are reasons enough to come here and paddle. The average New Mexico whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit easier to master than those in other states, so don't forget that a large number of rivers in this state are quite easy. The wild scenery of the Sangre De Cristo Mountains is great. Since you're on this site you are
probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way there are lots of good rivers for that around here. This is the only paddling section along Red River. Getting a good workout and just hanging out with mother nature have a lot of people coming here. You can pitch a tent
or park your RV at a nearby campground. If you hurry you can run this section in a day but why not make it an overnighter, so pack your sleeping bag. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Taos, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost.
Briefly about the general area: High temperatures at Red River through the days of summer are in the
80's, and during the night it cools down to the 40's. Throughout the wintertime the highs are ordinarily in the 30's while the cold winter nights at Red River are in the 0's. A tremendous site in the vicinity of Red River is Garrapata Canyon It's always tremendous to go to Cedar
Springs. At Red River you don’t see much precipitation; of all the months in a year August is the one with the most rain while January is the month with the least amount of precipitation. This site, the Sangre De Cristo Mountains, has so much outdoors cool stuff.
