The wonderful Rio Arriba County scenery and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. A good workout and spending some quality time in nature are great reasons to come. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling places. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in this state tend to be more forgiving than the national average, so better not forget that the rivers in this state are less demanding. This stretch has has enough
mileage, it's good length for a morning trip. The wild scenery of the San Juan and Jemez Mountains is great. This section of Rio de los Brazos in Rio Arriba County is 9 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class I-III section. There aren’t any hotels
right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. There are a few other stretches in this river system that can be paddled as well. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp.
Briefly about the general area: Through the warm days of summer at Rio de los Brazos highs are ordinarily in the 80's. All through the dark hours of summer temperatures drop down into the 40's. Through the winter this place gets highs in the 30's,
and nighttime lows at Rio de los Brazos through the winter generally descend into the 0's. Rio de los Brazos is a location that is rather dehydrated usually; during August this area sees the most rain; the driest of the months is May.
