The beautiful scenery of Rio Arriba County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream have people coming here. This section of Rio de los Pinos in New Mexico is 12 miles long and is a class II-III section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. This section is long enough for an overnight trip if you take your time, so go ahead and pack your camping stuff. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in New Mexico are often easier than in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that a lot of the rivers
here are suitable for beginners. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, in this general area you won't find many other paddling rivers. There's camping available near Rio de los Pinos. There are some good stretches to paddle in this river system,
the Atencio Canyon to Los Pinos stretch is one of them. The wild scenery of the San Juan and Jemez Mountains is great. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. Getting some good exercise and just hanging out with mother nature will make you glad you came.

January is the month with the least moisture. High temperatures at Rio de los Pinos during the summertime are in the 70's. Summer overnight lows descend down to the 40's. Throughout the winter this place gets highs in the 30's with winter lows in the-10's overnight here at Rio de los Pinos.
