Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often easier than elsewhere, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that a lot of the rivers here are suitable for beginners. This section of Rio de los Pinos is 12 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class II-III section. Getting some good exercise and just being out on the river for a while will make you glad you came. This section has enough mileage for an overnight trip, so why not pack your sleeping bag too. This is one of a small number of paddling stretches in this river system, there
are a few others too. The San Juan and Jemez Mountains scenery is wonderful. The beautiful scenery of Rio Arriba County and the playfulness of the water make the trip here worthwhile. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but if you don’t have reservations
you might end up sleeping in your car. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area you won't find many other paddling places. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby.
Briefly about the general area: Through the summer months at Rio de los Pinos temperatures are regularly in the 70's. Once the sun is down it drops down to the 40's. Highs through the wintertime are ordinarily in the 30's while the cold winter nights at Rio de los Pinos are in the-10's. At Rio de los Pinos you don’t see much rain; the month with most of the rain is July; January is the month with the least moisture.
