The scenic beauty of -blank- County and the water flowing gracefully down Rio Embudo attract people from near and far. The put-in location is a short drive from Taos, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. The sections for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in New Mexico are often more forgiving than in other states, so don't forget that quite a few of the sections here are pretty     easy. This stretch is mid length, it's perfect for a one day trip. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling rivers. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. All through the dark hours of summer temperatures plunge down into the 50's. High temperatures through the winter are normally in the 40's, and during the dark hours in the winter at Rio Embudo temperatures fall to the 10's. A short spree to Souse Hole Rapid is always worthwhile.   Not much precipitation falls here at Rio Embudo; most of the rain falls all through August, and February on the other hand is the driest.
