Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in this state tend to be more forgiving than the national average, so you'd better keep in mind that a large number of rivers in this state are quite easy. The starting location is a short drive from Taos, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. The Lee Trail to Chiflo Campground stretch of Rio Grande is 14 miles long and has been rated as a class II-IV section by American
Whitewater. A bit of exercise and just hanging out with mother nature have people coming from far and near. If you have the time you can make this a two day trip, so go ahead and pack your sleeping bag. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd
better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. This is not the only paddling stretch in this river system, there are others too. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way around here you won't find a large number of other rivers.

30's; winter nights come with lows in the 0's to Rio Grande. At Rio Grande you don’t see much rainfall; during the month of August you get the most rain around here, and the driest month is January. Rio Grande is near Sunshine Valley which is undeniably worth taking a look at.
