Whitewater rafting and kayaking in New Mexico is often easier than elsewhere, so you'd better keep in mind that the rivers in this state are less demanding. The nature scenery of New Mexico and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water will make you feel great. On this section you do get some distance, suitable for an afternoon trip. This stretch of Rio Grande in Taos County is 5 miles long and is a class III section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the
night, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. The starting point is not too far from Taos, as you can see on the road map further down. There are so many stretches to paddle in this river system, the Taos Junction Bridge to Embudo Station Restaurant
