New Mexico whitewater - Rio Santa Cruz, Santa Fe County
Santa Fe
county,
Cundiyo to Santa Cruz Reservoir section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
CLASS IV-V 1 miles
The put-in is not too far from Santa Fe, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. The Cundiyo to Santa Cruz Reservoir section of Rio Santa Cruz is 1 miles long and has been rated as a class IV-V section by American Whitewater. The wonderful New Mexico scenery and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream beats anything. Rio Santa Cruz doesn't have a lot of paddling stretches, the Cundiyo to Santa Cruz Reservoir stretch is the only one. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way around here you'll
find a large number of good spots. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. The average whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit easier to master in this state than those in other states, so don't forget that many of the sections here are safe
for beginners. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. This stretch is very short so you'd better be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times. Great exercise and just being out on the river for a while will make you glad you came.
