The natural beauty of New Mexico and the playfulness of the water will make you feel great. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more forgiving, so you'd better keep in mind that lots of rivers here are good for beginners. This section of San Antonio River in New Mexico is 20 miles long and is a class II-III section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. There are no other stretches to paddle along San Antonio River than the Lagunitas to Los Pinos stretch. Whether you're whitewater
rafting or kayaking there are not so many other good spots for that around here. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. The river winds through the San Juan Mountains and you get great scenery. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if
you want to stay the night, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Getting a good workout and just hanging out with mother nature will have you coming back for more. This section has enough mileage for an overnight trip, so pack your camp stove.
Briefly about the general area: It is very dry here at San Antonio River usually; the month of July is the wettest with most of the rain while January is regularly the driest month. The warmest time of the year brings highs in the 70's to San Antonio River with overnight lows in
the 40's. Highs all through the winter are regularly in the 30's, and overnight lows at San Antonio River all through the winter generally sink into the-10's.
