CLASS II 50 miles
This stretch of San Juan River in San Juan County is 50 miles long and has been rated as a class II section by American Whitewater. If you're coming from Farmington it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, as you can see on the road map further down. The wonderful San Juan County scenery and the cool fresh water beats anything. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. Now this is a pretty long section, so make sure you pack enough food along with your camping gear. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but if you don’t have
reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. Great exercise and spending some quality time in nature will make you glad you came. San Juan River doesn't have a lot of paddling stretches, the Navajo Dam to Four Corners stretch is the only one. The rivers for whitewater rafting
and kayaking in this state are often easier than in other states, so keep in mind that the rivers in this state are less demanding. When you're paddling down a Mesa Verde river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking around here you won't find a large number of other places.

the least amount of precipitation. High temperatures at San Juan River through the long summer days are in the 80's. Summer night lows dip down to the 50's. Throughout the wintertime this place gets highs in the 30's while San Juan River nighttime low temperatures through the wintertime are in the 10's. While staying at San Juan River you could always explore Cholla Canyon.
