The put-in location is a short drive from Plattsburgh, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. The natural beauty of Clinton/ Essex County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water will make you feel great. Getting a good workout and just being out on the river for a while will have you coming back for more. There are so many sections to paddle in this river system, the Keeseville to US Route 9 section is just one of many. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem
but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. This stretch of Ausable River is 6 miles long and is a class III-V+ section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. The average New York whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit harder
to master than those in other states, so don't forget that rivers here are not as easy as elsewhere. The beautiful Adirondack Mountains scenery is an added bonus. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this is an area with plenty of places for that. The campgrounds here at Ausable River are pretty good. On this section you do get some distance, suitable for an afternoon trip.
