The natural beauty of Clinton/ Essex County and the playfulness of the water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. The Keeseville to US Route 9 stretch of Ausable River in Clinton/ Essex County is 6 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class III-V+ section. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside New York you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so keep in mind that the rivers in this state are less manageable. This stretch has has enough mileage, it's perfect for a one day trip. Not too many
hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Getting some good exercise and just hanging out with mother nature are great reasons to come. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can
camp. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Plattsburgh, as you can see on the road map further down. The beautiful Adirondack Mountains scenery is an added bonus. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way there are lots of good spots for that around here. The Keeseville to US Route 9 section is one of many paddling sections in this river system.

one that rains the most, and the driest month is February. A short trip to Rainbow Falls is always worthwhile, and Alice Falls is an inspiring place to pop by while here. At Ausable River throughout the months of summer highs are in the 70's. When the night sets in temperatures
drop down into the 50's. Daytime highs through the winter are in the 20's with temperatures at Ausable River dipping down into the 0's through winter nights. Man, is there a heap of amusing things to do in the Adirondack Mountains.
