The natural beauty of New York and the playfulness of the water attract people from near and far. If you're coming from Plattsburgh it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, as you can see on the road map further down. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. A bit of exercise and spending some quality time in nature have people coming from far and near. This section     of Ausable River - East Branch in New York is 6.3 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class II-III section. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking around here you'll find a large number of good places. The Adirondack Mountains scenery is wonderful. This is not the only paddling section in this river system, there are others too. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, it's good length for a morning trip. Briefly about the general area: From a rainfall point of view Ausable River - East Branch is a rather typical place; the month of August is the wettest with most of the rain, and February on the other hand is the driest. Summertime highs   at Ausable River - East Branch frequently tend to be in the 70's, and the nighttime is a little cooler of course, frequently in the 50's. The wintertime brings highs down to the 20's; during the dark hours in the winter at Ausable River - East Branch temperatures drop to the 0's.
