The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Plattsburgh, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. The average whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit harder to master in this state than those in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that many of the rivers here are not very forgiving. The High Falls Gorge section of Ausable River - West Branch in New York is 0.25 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class V+ section. A bit of exercise and just hanging out with mother
nature have people coming from far and near. The beautiful scenery of New York and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream attract people from near and far. This is a very short section so no need to bring snacks. The campgrounds here at Ausable River - West
Branch are pretty good. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way around here you'll find a large number of good rivers. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. There are so many sections to paddle in this river system, the High Falls Gorge section is just one of many. Whitewater paddling here in the Adirondack Mountains is a great experience.

visit. It's always tremendous to take a look at High Falls. Throughout the warm days of summer at Ausable River - West Branch highs are frequently in the 70's while nighttime lows are mostly in the 50's. Highs during the wintertime are typically in the 20's, and after the sun is
down throughout the wintertime temperatures at Ausable River - West Branch drop into the 0's. All year is a good time in the Adirondack Mountains if you like the outdoors. Ausable River - West Branch is right next door to High Falls Gorge which is unquestionably worth a visit;
there is a magnificent hiking trail close by called the Schwartz Trail. Ausable River - West Branch gets a typical amount of annual precipitation; the month of August is the wettest with most of the rain while February is ordinarily the driest month. Ausable River - West Branch lays in the shadow of the Sentinel Range; there's no such thing as a bad day of skiing at nearby Whiteface Mountain.
