The scenic beauty of New York and the cool fresh water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. This stretch is very short so you'd better be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times. The campgrounds here at Ausable River - West Branch are pretty good. The put-in location is a short drive from Plattsburgh, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. The average New York whitewater     rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit harder to master than those in other states, so better not forget that many of the rivers here are not very forgiving. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. When you're paddling down a Adirondack Mountains river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too. Highway, and Whiteface Mountain has fine slopes and a friendly staff. High temperatures at Ausable River - West Branch during the summer are in the 70's.
