If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside New York you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that a large number of rivers in this state are not easy. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Plattsburgh, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. The High Falls Gorge to Flume stretch of Ausable River - West Branch in New York is 2 miles long and is a class V section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. The beautiful Adirondack Mountains
scenery is an added bonus. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling spots. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from
the river if you want to stay the night, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. The nature scenery of New York and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water make the trip here worthwhile. Great exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors will make you glad you came. This is a somewhat short section so no need to bring snacks. There are plenty of other stretches in this river system that can be paddled as well.
