The Wilmington to Ausable Forks stretch of Ausable River - West Branch is 11 miles long and is a class I-III+ section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. The sections for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in New York are often more challenging than in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that the rivers in this state are less manageable. This stretch has enough mileage for an overnight trip, so pack your sleeping bag.     You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. The wonderful Essex County scenery and the cool fresh water attract people from near and far. Getting some good exercise and just hanging out with mother nature have people coming from far and near. The river winds through the Adirondack Mountains and you get great scenery. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking around here you'll find a large number of good spots. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. This river system is full of great paddling sections, the Wilmington to Ausable Forks section is just one of them.
