The Route 30 bridge to Intake Road bridge stretch of Bear Kill River is 3.3 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class II-IV section. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in New York tend to be more challenging than the national average, so you'd better keep in mind that lots of rivers here are not for beginners. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Amsterdam, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this area has a large
number of paddling places. This is a short paddling stretch so you'll have to walk back to the start over and over. There are no other sections to paddle along Bear Kill River than the Route 30 bridge to Intake Road bridge section. Getting a good workout and just hanging out with
mother nature have people coming from far and near. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. The beauty of the Catskill Mountains is a great plus for this river. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. The natural beauty of Delaware County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream have people coming here.
