The North Lake to Farr Road stretch of Black River in New York is 6 miles long and has been rated as a class I-IV section by American Whitewater. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in New York is often tougher than elsewhere, so don't forget that rivers here are less forgiving. Whitewater paddling here in the Adirondack Mountains is a great experience. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but you'd better reserve     in advance because these hotels fill up quick. On this section you do get some distance, suitable for an afternoon trip. The North Lake to Farr Road section is one of many paddling sections in this river system. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of rivers for that. Getting a good workout and spending some quality time in nature are sure to keep you coming back for more. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. Briefly about the general area: Black River usually gets a great deal of rainfall; August is the wettest month with most rain, and the driest month of the year is February. Summer at Black River arrives with high temperatures   in the 70's while overnight lows are generally in the 50's. Throughout the winter highs are regularly in the 20's with temperatures at Black River dipping down into the 0's during winter nights. Having a good time in the Adirondack Mountains is easy. There's tremendous hiking along the Twin Lakes Trail, and the Forty Mountain Trail offers hiking at its best.
