Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often more difficult than elsewhere, so if you're not from around here don't forget that many runs in this state are not easy. On this section you do get some distance, it's perfect for a one day trip. Getting a good workout and just being out on the river for a while are great attractions for lots of people. The beautiful scenery of Oneida County and the water flowing gracefully down Black River beats anything. There     are so many stretches to paddle in this river system, the Hawkinsville to Norton Road stretch is just one of many. This stretch of Black River in Oneida County is 6 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class II-III section. The campgrounds here at Black River are pretty good. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. Briefly about the general area: At Black River all through the summertime highs are in the 70's. Through the dark hours of summer temperatures plunge down into the 50's. The winter comes with highs in the 20's, and night lows throughout the winter for Black River tend to be in the 0's.
