If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so don't forget that many of the sections here are not safe for beginners. The Watertown to Brownville section of Black River in New York is 8 miles long and is a class III-V section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. If you'll be staying in a hotel you're in luck, lodging is available very near the river,     and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. The nature scenery of Jefferson County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water attract people from near and far. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, there are lots of good rivers for that around here. A bit of exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors will make you glad you came. The Watertown to Brownville section is one of a few paddling sections in this river system. This stretch has has enough mileage, good for a one day paddling trip. There's camping available near Black River. Briefly about the general area: Through the days of summer here at Black River, high temperatures typically reach the 70's while night lows are frequently in the 50's. Through the winter highs are in the 20's, and after the sun is   down throughout the wintertime temperatures at Black River sink into the 0's. Black River is a good place of normal rain; during the month of November you get the most rain around here, and July on the other hand is the driest. The skiing at Dry Hill is wonderful; there are plenty of people from Watertown-Fort Drum here at Black River.
