The Sterlingville to Philadelphia section of Black Creek in Jefferson County is 5 miles long and it is classified as a class II-III section by American Whitewater. The scenic beauty of New York and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water will make you feel great. If you're coming from Watertown-Fort Drum it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, as you can see on the road map further down. The campgrounds here at Black Creek are pretty good. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but
you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. This stretch has has enough mileage, good for a one day paddling trip. The Sterlingville to Philadelphia section is one of a few paddling sections in this river system. A bit of exercise and a chance to spend some
time outdoors have a lot of people coming here. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this is an area with plenty of spots for that. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside New York you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that a large number of rivers in this state are not easy.
