CLASS III-V     6.5 miles
  The starting point is not too far from Plattsburgh, as you can see on the road map further down. This section of The Branch in New York is 6.5 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class III-V section. Getting your paddling muscles activated and a chance to spend some time outdoors have a lot of people coming here. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of spots for that. And of course, there
    are campgrounds nearby. There arenít any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. This river system has a
few good paddling sections and the Along State Route 9N Alder Brook R section is one of them. The average New York whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be harder to run than those in other states, so keep in mind that many of the sections here are not safe for beginners. This stretch is mid length, it's good length for a morning trip. The scenic beauty of New York and the water flowing gracefully down The Branch beats anything. When  
you're paddling down a Adirondack Mountains river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too.

Briefly about the general area:
The Branch is right by the Giant Mountain-Rte. 73 - Zander Scott Trail, and people from Elizabethtown love to come here. So many enjoyable things to do in the Adirondack Mountains, not enough time. The Rocky Peak Ridge-Route 9N - East Trail offers hiking at its best. A typical amount of precipitation falls here at The Branch. All through August this area sees the most rain while February is generally the driest month. Summertime highs at The Branch frequently tend to be in the 70's.
