New York whitewater - The Branch, Adirondack Mountains, Essex County Essex county, Along State Route 9N Alder Brook R section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS III-V     6.5 miles   The beautiful scenery of Essex County and the cool fresh water beats anything. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Plattsburgh, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. This section of The Branch is 6.5 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class III-V section of whitewater. This river system has a few good paddling sections and the Along State Route 9N Alder Brook R section is one of them. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in New York are often tougher than in     other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that rivers here are less forgiving. Great exercise and just being out on the river for a while have a lot of people coming here. This is a pretty decent length section, it's good length for a morning trip. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking around here you'll find a large number of good places. The beautiful Adirondack Mountains scenery is an added bonus. Briefly about the general area: The Branch gets a common amount of annual rainfall; August is the wettest month with most rain, and the driest of the months is February. On a brilliant day at The Branch you can take a hike   along the Rocky Peak Ridge-Route 9N - East Trail. For the period of the summer at The Branch temperatures are ordinarily in the 70's while night lows are generally in the 50's. Throughout the wintertime highs are typically in the 20's with winter lows in the 0's overnight here at The Branch.
