The Boreas Road to Palmer Pond stretch of The Branch in New York is 6 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class III-V section. The wonderful New York scenery and the playfulness of the water make the trip here worthwhile. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, and if
you make reservations in advance you're all set. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking around here you'll find a large number of good rivers. Great exercise and just being out on the river for a while will make you glad you came. On this section you do get some distance,
good for a one day paddling trip. When you're paddling down a Adirondack Mountains river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too. There are a few other stretches in this river system that can be paddled as well.
Briefly about the general area: From a rainfall point of view The Branch is a quite normal spot; August is the wettest month with most rain, and the driest month of the year is February. High temperatures at The Branch throughout the warm days of summer are in the 70's. All through the dark hours of summer temperatures
dip down into the 50's. For the period of the winter the highs are usually in the 20's; night lows all through the winter for The Branch tend to be in the 0's. On a pretty day you can take a look at Jones Beach next to The Branch.
