New York whitewater - The Branch, Adirondack Mountains, Essex County Essex county, Boreas Road to Palmer Pond section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS III-V     6 miles   The wonderful New York scenery and the playfulness of the water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more demanding, so better not forget that quite a few of the sections here are not easy. A bit of exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors will have you coming back for more. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, suitable for an afternoon trip. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this     area has a large number of paddling rivers. The river winds through the Adirondack Mountains and you get great scenery. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. There are a few other stretches in this river system that can be paddled as well. The Boreas Road to Palmer Pond stretch of The Branch is 6 miles long and it is classified as a class III-V section by American Whitewater. Briefly about the general area: Time spent at Jones Beach near The Branch is always delightful. All through the days of summer highs here at The Branch get into the 70's, and during summer nights temperatures are in the 50's. Highs during the wintertime are ordinarily in the 20's;   after the sun is down during the winter temperatures at The Branch sink into the 0's. The amount of rain that falls at The Branch is close to the national average; most of the rain falls all through August, and the driest month of the year is February.
