New York whitewater - Cascadilla Creek, Tompkins County Tompkins county, Collegetown to Ithaca section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS V     2 miles   The Collegetown to Ithaca stretch of Cascadilla Creek in Tompkins County is 2 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class V section of whitewater. The starting point is not too far from Ithaca, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. There are nice comfortable hotels here, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. This is a short paddling stretch so it's not like you're gonna spend hours on the river in one stretch. The     scenic beauty of Tompkins County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water beats anything. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so don't forget that quite a few of the sections here are not easy. This is the only paddling section along Cascadilla Creek. Getting a good workout and just being out on the river for a while are great reasons to come. Briefly about the general area: Summertime highs at Cascadilla Creek usually tend to be in the 80's; the night is fairly chillier of course, commonly in the 50's. Through the wintertime this place gets highs in the 30's; after the sun is down during the winter temperatures at Cascadilla Creek dip into the 10's. Cascadilla Creek gets a normal amount of yearly rain; June is the wettest month   with most rain while February is the month with the least amount of precipitation. You have to have a look at Willow Point when you're here at Cascadilla Creek. Don't leave Cascadilla Creek without first paying a visit to Ithaca Falls, and you'll meet a lot of folks from Ithaca here.
