New York whitewater - Cascadilla Creek, Tompkins County Tompkins county, Collegetown to Ithaca section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS V     2 miles   The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state are often tougher than in other states, so better not forget that quite a few of the sections here are not easy. This section of Cascadilla Creek in New York is 2 miles long and is a class V section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. The put-in is not too far from Ithaca, as you can see on the road map further down. The scenic beauty of Tompkins County and the water flowing gracefully down Cascadilla Creek have people coming here. The campgrounds here at Cascadilla Creek are pretty good.     A good workout and just hanging out with mother nature have a lot of people coming here. If you'll be staying in a hotel you're in luck, lodging is available very near the river, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. Cascadilla Creek doesn't have a lot of paddling stretches, the Collegetown to Ithaca stretch is the only one. This is a somewhat short section so you'd better be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times. Briefly about the general area: You're sure to bump into some wonderful people from Ithaca here; the beauty of mother nature reveals herself at Ithaca Falls. Not far from Cascadilla Creek you come across Willow Point. The amount of precipitation that falls at Cascadilla Creek is close to the national average; June is the month that gets the most rain   while February is mostly the driest month. High temperatures at Cascadilla Creek throughout the summertime months are in the 80's. When the night sets in temperatures plunge down into the 50's. During the wintertime the highs are usually in the 30's with temperatures at Cascadilla Creek dipping down into the 10's through winter nights.
