The put-in location is a short drive from Kingston, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. The Cooksburg to Woodstock Dam stretch of Catskill Creek is 17 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class II-III section of whitewater. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. You can enjoy this section more if you take your time, so why not pack your sleeping bag too. You can pitch a tent or park
your RV at a nearby campground. The wild scenery of the Catskill Mountains is great. There are plenty of other stretches in this river system that can be paddled as well. The beautiful scenery of New York and the cool fresh water have people coming here. The sections for whitewater
rafting and kayaking here in New York are often more challenging than in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that lots of rivers here are not for beginners. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking around here you'll find a large number of good spots. Getting your paddling muscles activated and a chance to spend some time outdoors will make you glad you came.
