New York whitewater - Catskill Creek, Catskill Mountains, Greene County Greene county, Woodstock Dam to South Cairo section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS II-IV     5.5 miles   The starting point is not too far from Kingston, as you can see on the road map further down. The wonderful New York scenery and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. This section of Catskill Creek is 5.5 miles long and has been rated as a class II-IV section by American Whitewater.     The Woodstock Dam to South Cairo section is one of many paddling sections in this river system. On this section you do get some distance, suitable for an afternoon trip. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this area has a large number of paddling rivers. The average New York whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be harder to run than those in other states, so better not forget that quite a few of the sections here are not easy. Whitewater paddling here in the Catskill Mountains is a great experience. Great exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors will have you coming back for more. Briefly about the general area: From a precipitation point of view Catskill Creek is a pretty typical place; of all the months in a year May is the one with the most rain while February is regularly the driest   month. Through the days of summer highs here at Catskill Creek get into the 70's, and through the night it cools down to the 50's. Through the wintertime the highs are regularly in the 20's, and winter nights come with lows in the 0's to Catskill Creek.
