The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Kingston, as you can see on the road map further down. The scenic beauty of New York and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream are reasons enough to come here and paddle. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. The river winds through the Catskill Mountains and you get great scenery. There's camping available near Catskill Creek. A bit of exercise and spending
some quality time in nature are sure to keep you coming back for more. This stretch of Catskill Creek in New York is 5.5 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class II-IV section. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, there are
lots of good spots for that around here. This river system is full of great paddling stretches, the Woodstock Dam to South Cairo stretch is just one of them. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in New York is often tougher than elsewhere, so keep in mind that rivers here are less forgiving. On this section you do get some distance, you can easily run it on an afternoon.
