New York whitewater - Catskill Creek, Catskill Mountains, Greene County Greene county, South Cairo to Leeds section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.     The nature scenery of New York and the playfulness of the water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. The put-in is not too far from Hudson, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. This stretch has has enough mileage, suitable for an afternoon trip. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this is an area with plenty of rivers for that. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping     in your car. The average New York whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be harder to run than those in other states, so don't forget that rivers here are not as easy as elsewhere. The Catskill Mountains scenery is wonderful. A good workout and just being out on the river for a while have a lot of people coming here. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. There are so many stretches to paddle in this river system, the South Cairo to Leeds stretch is just one of many. Briefly about the general area: Through the months of summer at Catskill Creek highs are mostly in the 70's. All through the dark hours of summer temperatures drop down into the 50's. High temperatures throughout the winter are normally in the 20's, and winter nights come with lows in the 0's to Catskill Creek.
