CLASS II-V 8 miles
This stretch of Cedar River is 8 miles long and is a class II-V section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. There are a few other sections in this river system that can be paddled as well. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, suitable for an afternoon trip. The nature scenery of Hamilton/Essex County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water make the
trip here worthwhile. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. The beauty of the Adirondack Mountains is a great plus for this river. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so you'd
better keep in mind that many runs in this state are not easy. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just hanging out with mother nature are great attractions for lots of people. in the winter at Cedar River temperatures dip to the 0's. Cedar River gets much water; of all the months in a year August is the one with the most rain, and the driest month of the year is February. Going for a hike on the Northville Lake Placid Trail is always a nice adventure.
