This section of Cedar River in New York is 8 miles long and has been rated as a class II-V section by American Whitewater. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside New York you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so keep in mind that many of the rivers here are not very forgiving. Great exercise and just hanging out with mother nature have a lot of people coming here. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this is an area with plenty of rivers for that. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have
to drive a bit to get to one, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. On this section you do get some distance, suitable for an afternoon trip. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. The wonderful New York scenery and the
cool fresh water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. The wild scenery of the Adirondack Mountains is great. This river system has a few good paddling sections and the Wakeley Dam to Spraque Brook section is one of them.
Briefly about the general area: The high level of rain makes Cedar River a reasonably wet place; most of the rain falls throughout August, and February on the other hand is the driest. While you're here at Cedar River you can take a hike along the Northville Lake Placid Trail. Through the warm days of summer
highs here at Cedar River reach the 70's; the nighttime is a tad cooler of course, generally in the 50's. For the duration of the wintertime the highs are regularly in the 20's while the cold winter nights at Cedar River are in the 0's.
