  If you're coming from Malone it's not a long drive at all to the starting location. The Lower Chateugay Lake to Cooks Mill section of Chateaugay River is 12.2 miles long and it is classified as a class II-V+ section by American Whitewater. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often more difficult than elsewhere, so keep in mind that rivers here are not as easy as elsewhere.
    Getting a good workout and spending some quality time in nature have people coming from far and near. You can enjoy this stretch more if you take your time, so why not pack your camp stove too. This is the only paddling section along Chateaugay River. The scenic beauty of New York
and the playfulness of the water attract people from near and far. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good rivers for that around here.

Briefly about the general area:
Summertime brings highs in the 70's to Chateaugay River, and the night is a little colder of course, typically in the 50's. The cold days of the winter come with highs in the 20's, and winter nights come with lows in the 0's to Chateaugay River. Don't leave Chateaugay River without first paying a visit to High Falls.
