The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Malone. This stretch is long enough for an overnight trip if you take your time, so why not pack your camping stuff too. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. There are no other sections to paddle along Chateaugay River than the Lower Chateugay     Lake to Cooks Mill section. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in New York is often tougher than elsewhere, so if you're not from around here don't forget that many of the sections here are not safe for beginners. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. Getting some good exercise and just hanging out with mother nature will have you coming back for more. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of spots for that. The beautiful scenery of New York and the water flowing gracefully down Chateaugay River attract people from near and far. Briefly about the general area: The high level of precipitation makes Chateaugay River a reasonably wet spot; August is when you get the most rain here; February meanwhile is the driest month. High Falls is always fun to check out. All through   the months of summer, highs generally are in the 70's at Chateaugay River; the nighttime is rather cooler of course, ordinarily in the 50's. Through the winter highs are in the 20's; after the sun is down throughout the wintertime temperatures at Chateaugay River drop into the 0's.
