This section of Chautauqua Creek in New York is 14.5 miles long and is rated
by American Whitewater as a class III section. If you're coming from Jamestown-Dunkirk-Fredonia it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location. The average New York whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be harder to run than those in other states, so keep in mind that
a large number of rivers in this state are not easy. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area you won't find many other paddling spots. The Lyons Road to Lake Erie stretch is the only paddling stretch along Chautauqua Creek. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. The scenic beauty of New York and the cool fresh water have people coming here. If you hurry you can run this stretch in a day but why not make it an overnighter,
so go ahead and pack your sleeping bag. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. Great exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors have a lot of people coming here.
