New York whitewater - Chautauqua Creek, Chatauqua County
Chatauqua
county,
Lyons Road to Lake Erie section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
CLASS III 14.5 miles
This section of Chautauqua Creek in New York is 14.5 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class III section. The average whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit harder to master in this state than those in other states, so don't forget that the rivers in this state are less manageable. This section is long enough for an overnight trip if you take your time, so why not pack your sleeping bag too. The put-in location is a short drive from Jamestown-Dunkirk-Fredonia. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just
being out on the river for a while are great attractions for lots of people. Chautauqua Creek doesn't have a lot of paddling sections, the Lyons Road to Lake Erie section is the only one. The nature scenery of New York and the water flowing gracefully down Chautauqua Creek are
reasons enough to come here and paddle. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are not so many other good rivers for that around here.
