The sections for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in New York are often more challenging than in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that quite a few of the sections here are not easy. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. The Duck Hole to mouth stretch of Cold River in New York is 14 miles long     and is a class II-V+ section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. If you have the time you can make this a two day trip, so why not pack your camping stuff too. The beauty of the Adirondack Mountains is a great plus for this river. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling places. This is the only paddling stretch along Cold River. Great exercise and just being out on the river for a while are sure to keep you coming back for more. Through the dark hours of summer temperatures sink down into the 50's. The winter brings highs down to the 20's while Cold River night low temperatures through the winter are in the 0's. Cold River gets a common amount of annual rain; August is the month that gets the most rain; the driest month of the year is February.
