New York whitewater, Deer River Essex / Warren county, Fourteenth Road to North River section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS III-V     2 miles   The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in New York are often tougher than in other states, so keep in mind that many of the sections here are not safe for beginners. The Fourteenth Road to North River section of Deer River in New York is 2 miles long and has been rated as a class III-V section by American Whitewater. Deer River doesn't have a lot of paddling sections, the Fourteenth Road to North River section is the only one.     The starting location is a reasonable drive from Glens Falls, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. This is a somewhat short section so it's not like you're gonna spend hours on the river in one stretch. The scenic beauty of Essex / Warren County and the playfulness of the water make the trip here worthwhile. The Adirondack Mountains scenery is wonderful. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just hanging out with mother nature will have you coming back for more. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular       destination. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this is an area with plenty of places for that. Briefly   about the general area: Put some time aside to spend at Perry Ehlers Rapids if you're here at Deer River. The slopes of Gore Mountain are so inviting nobody can resist, and there are plenty of folks from North River here. This is such a fun river. Mouse Rapids is always fun to check out, and hiking along the Oregon Trail is splendid fun. Deer River is a good place of typical precipitation.
