New York whitewater - Deer River, Adirondack Mountains, Essex / Warren County
Essex / Warren
county,
Fourteenth Road to North River section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
CLASS III-V 2 miles
The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in New York are often tougher than in other states, so you'd better keep in mind that rivers here are less forgiving. Getting some good exercise and just being out on the river for a while will make you glad you came. The river winds through the Adirondack Mountains and you get great scenery. This stretch of Deer River is 2 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class III-V section. This is a pretty short section so it's not like you're gonna spend hours on the river in one stretch. There
are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. The natural beauty of New York and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but if you don’t have
reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. Deer River doesn't have a lot of paddling sections, the Fourteenth Road to North River section is the only one.
