The natural beauty of New York and the water flowing gracefully down Deer River make the trip here worthwhile. Deer River doesn't have a lot of paddling stretches, the Fourteenth Road to North River stretch is the only one. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. The Fourteenth Road to North River section of Deer River in New York is 2 miles long and has been rated as a class III-V section by American Whitewater. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. Getting your
paddling muscles activated and a chance to spend some time outdoors have people coming from far and near. The average whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit harder to master in this state than those in other states, so you'd better keep in mind that many of the
sections here are not safe for beginners. This is a bit of a short stretch so better bring some good walking shoes. Whitewater paddling here in the Adirondack Mountains is a great experience.
Briefly about the general area: At Deer River during the summer months highs are in the 70's, and the overnight is rather chillier of course, usually in the 50's. The wintertime comes with highs in the 20's; night lows through the wintertime for Deer River tend to be in the 0's. That right there is loads of amusing things already but it goes on, the Adirondack
Mountains has it all. Really delightful skiing awaits you at Gore Mountain, and great hiking is available along the Oregon Trail. An average amount of precipitation falls at Deer River; all through the month of August you get the most rain around here; February is when it's the driest.
