The nature scenery of St. Lawrence County and the water flowing gracefully down Deer River will make you feel great. This stretch is mid length, it's perfect for a one day trip. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. This is one of a small number of paddling sections in this river system, there are a few others too. There are campgrounds     quite near the river where you can camp. A bit of exercise and spending some quality time in nature are great attractions for lots of people. This section of Deer River is 4.5 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class II-III section. The put-in is not too far from Malone, as you can see on the road map further down. Briefly about the general area: Through the days of summer highs here at Deer River reach the 80's while overnight lows are usually in the 50's. The winter brings highs down to the 20's, and nighttime lows at Deer River all through the wintertime ordinarily descend into the 0's.
