New York whitewater, Delaware River

Delaware Sullivan Orange county, Hancock to Port Jervis section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS I-II     77 miles
The nature scenery of New York and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water attract people from near and far. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside New York you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so better not forget that rivers here are less forgiving. Getting some good exercise and just being out on the river for a while are great reasons to come. This section of Delaware River in New York is 77 miles long and
has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class I-II section. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, around here you'll find a large number of good places. The nearby hotels are
a bit away from the river, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. The Hancock to Port Jervis stretch is one of a few paddling stretches in this river system. The put-in location is a short drive from East Stroudsburg, as you can see on the road map further down. A section like this is is of course not run in a single day, so make sure you pack enough food
along with your camping gear.
