The nature scenery of New York and the cool fresh water attract people from near and far. The Hancock to Port Jervis section of Delaware River is 77 miles long and it is classified as a class I-II section by American Whitewater. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside New York you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so if you're not from around here don't forget that many runs in this state are not easy. The Hancock to Port Jervis section is one of a few paddling sections in this river system. The campgrounds here at Delaware
River are pretty good. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just being out on the river for a while have people coming from far and near. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. Some people
prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way in this general area you'll find lots of paddling spots. Now this is a pretty long section, so better bring your camping gear along.
Briefly about the general area: High temperatures at Delaware River all through the warm months are in the 70's. Summer night lows sink down to the 50's. All through the wintertime this place gets highs in the 30's, and overnight lows in the 10's for Delaware River. Delaware River is a reasonably wet place frequently with lots of rain; the month with most
of the rain is August, and February is the month with the least moisture. Near Delaware River you come across the Schiff Trail which is a wonderful hiking trail.
