New York whitewater - Delaware River, Delaware/ Sullivan/ Orange County Delaware/ Sullivan/ Orange county, Hancock to Port Jervis section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS I-II     77 miles   This section of Delaware River in New York is 77 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class I-II section. The wonderful Delaware/ Sullivan/ Orange County scenery and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream attract people from near and far. There are a few other stretches in this river system that can be paddled as well. The campgrounds here at Delaware River are pretty good. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way there are lots of good rivers for that around here. Getting some     good exercise and just hanging out with mother nature will make you glad you came. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. The sections for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in New York are often more challenging than in other states, so keep in mind that rivers here are less forgiving. A stretch this long is of course too much for a one day trip, so make sure you pack enough food along with your camping gear. Briefly about the general area: Delaware River gets a large amount of water; the wettest month of the year is usually August, that's the one that rains the most, and February is the month with the least moisture. The warmest time of the year at Delaware River comes with high temperatures in the 70's. For the duration of the dark   hours of summer temperatures sink down into the 50's. The cold days of the wintertime come with highs in the 30's, and overnight lows in the 10's for Delaware River. Hiking is a popular thing to do around Delaware River; Schiff Trail is a glorious local trail.
