This stretch of Dry Brook in New York is 5.5 miles long and it is classified as a class II-IV section by American Whitewater. The wonderful New York scenery and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream beats anything. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, good for a one day paddling trip. Getting some good exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great attractions for lots of people. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in New York are often tougher than in other states, so keep in mind
that many of the rivers here are not very forgiving. The Catskill Mountains scenery is wonderful. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby.
Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way around here you'll find a large number of good places. This is the only paddling stretch along Dry Brook.
Briefly about the general area: For the period of the summertime highs here at Dry Brook reach the 70's; the night is slightly cooler of course, typically in the 50's. The wintertime brings highs down to the 30's, and throughout the dark hours in the winter at Dry Brook temperatures fall to the 10's. You'll really wish for more hours in a day to enjoy all the cool stuff
in the Catskill Mountains. A tour to Negro Hollow is always fun, and Belleayre has brilliant slopes and a friendly staff. Dry Brook sees pretty high levels of rainfall; through the month of May you get the most rain around here, and February meanwhile is the driest month.
