If you're coming from Kingston it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. The beautiful scenery of ulster County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream make the trip here worthwhile. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in New York are harder than the national norm, so better not forget that many runs in this state are not easy. Great exercise and spending some quality time in nature have a lot of people coming here. The campgrounds here at
Esopus Creek are pretty good. This stretch of Esopus Creek is 6 miles long and is a class II-III section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. This stretch is mid length, it's good length for a morning trip. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't
matter, this area has a large number of paddling spots. There are plenty of other sections in this river system that can be paddled as well. The Catskill Mountains scenery is wonderful. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car.
