If you're coming from Kingston it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. The Big Indian to Boiceville stretch of Esopus Creek is 17 miles long and it is classified as a class II-III section by American Whitewater. A good workout and just hanging out with mother     nature have a lot of people coming here. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way in this general area you'll find lots of paddling spots. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. This stretch has enough mileage for an overnight trip, so go ahead and pack your camping stuff. The wonderful Ulster County scenery and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water have people coming here. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. The wild scenery of the Catskill Mountains is great. The Big Indian to Boiceville section is one of many paddling sections in this river system. Briefly about the general area: A good location to take a look at in close   proximity to Esopus Creek is Cross Mountain Hollow; hiking is a popular thing to do around Esopus Creek; Phoenicia Trail is a great local trail. Esopus Creek is a good location of typical rain; the month with most of the rain is May while February is the month with the least amount of precipitation. Having a great time in the Catskill Mountains is uncomplicated. High temperatures at Esopus Creek through the warm days of summer are in the 70's. When the night sets in temperatures fall down into the 50's. Throughout the winter highs are frequently in the 20's, and after the sun is down all through the wintertime temperatures at Esopus Creek plunge into the 0's.
