  Whitewater rafting and kayaking in New York is often tougher than elsewhere, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that a large number of rivers in this state are not easy. The Etna to Forest Home section of Fall Creek in New York is 8 miles long and has been rated as a class II-III section by American Whitewater. There are nice comfortable hotels here, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. This is one of a small number of paddling stretches in this river system, there are a few others too. The campgrounds here at
    Fall Creek are pretty good. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, there are lots of good spots for that around here. This stretch has has enough mileage, you can easily run it on an afternoon. The scenic beauty of Tompkins County and the cool
fresh water make the trip here worthwhile. If you're coming from Ithaca it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page.
