The starting point is not too far from Ogdensburg-Massena, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. The nature scenery of New York and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream make the trip here worthwhile. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so if you're not from around here don't forget that     the rivers in this state are less manageable. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way around here you'll find a large number of good places. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, good for a one day paddling trip. This river system is full of great paddling stretches, the Lampsons Falls to Russell stretch is just one of them. Great exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great reasons to come. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. Briefly about the general area: During the summer highs here at Grass River get into the 70's; during summer nights temperatures   are in the 50's. Through the wintertime highs are typically in the 20's, and through the dark hours in the winter at Grass River temperatures sink to the 0's. From a precipitation point of view Grass River is a rather typical location; the wettest month of the year is usually August, that's the one that rains the most while February is regularly the driest month. There's a perfect forest in close proximity to Grass River called Donnerville State Forest; since you're here you will meet lots of folks from close by Ogdensburg-Massena.
