CLASS II-III(IV)     5 miles
  This stretch of Great Chazy River in New York is 5 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class II-III(IV) section. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in New York is often more difficult than elsewhere, so you'd better keep in mind that the rivers in this state are less manageable. The natural beauty of Clinton County and the water flowing gracefully down Great Chazy River are reasons enough to come here and paddle. There
    are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. The river winds through the Adirondack Mountains and you get great scenery. A good workout and spending some quality time in nature are sure to keep you coming back
for more. This stretch is mid length, suitable for an afternoon trip. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of places for that. The starting location is a short drive from Plattsburgh, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, and if you make reservations in advance you're  
all set. There are a few other sections in this river system that can be paddled as well.

Briefly about the general area:
Lots of people from Altona come to Great Chazy River, and a tour here wouldn’t be complete without a visit to close by Macomb Reservation State Park. You just can't imagine the amount of outdoors entertaining things the Adirondack Mountains has to offer. Summertime highs at Great Chazy River regularly tend to be in the 70's, and during the night it cools down to the 50's. For the period of the winter highs are in the 20's, and overnight lows in the 0's for Great Chazy River.
