  If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside New York you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so better not forget that a lot of the rivers here are not suitable for beginners. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Plattsburgh, as you can see on the road map further down. The scenic beauty of Clinton County and the cool fresh water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. Not too many hotels
    nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. This stretch of Great Chazy River in Clinton County is 11 miles long and is rated by American
Whitewater as a class IV+ section. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this area has a large number of paddling places. Getting some good exercise and just being out on the river for a while have a lot of people coming here. This section has enough mileage for an overnight trip, so pack your camping stuff. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. This is one of a small number of paddling sections  
in this river system, there are a few others too.

Briefly about the general area:
Great Chazy River is not far at all from Mooers, and a glorious location like Macomb Reservation State Park is too nice to leave out. The amount of precipitation that falls at Great Chazy River is close to the national average. The wettest month of the year is frequently August, that's the one that rains the most, and the driest of the months is February. Throughout the summer highs here at Great Chazy River reach the 70's, and the overnight is somewhat chillier of course, commonly in the 50's.
