The Miner Lake to Mooers stretch of Great Chazy River is 11 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class IV+ section. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Plattsburgh, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. Getting a good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors will have you coming back for more. This stretch has enough mileage for an overnight trip, so why not     pack your camp stove too. This is one of a small number of paddling stretches in this river system, there are a few others too. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so don't forget that many of the rivers here are not very forgiving. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this area has a large number of paddling spots. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. Through the summer months, highs frequently are in the 70's at Great Chazy River, and the nighttime   is slightly chillier of course, frequently in the 50's.
