New York whitewater - Hannacrois Creek, Catskill Mountains, Greene County Greene county, Deans Mill to Hudson River section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS III-IV     5.5 miles   The scenic beauty of Greene County and the cool fresh water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Hudson, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. The average New York whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit harder to master than those in other states, so don't forget that many of the sections here are not safe for beginners. This stretch is mid length, it's good length for a morning trip. The Deans Mill to Hudson River section of Hannacrois     Creek in Greene County is 5.5 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class III-IV section. The wild scenery of the Catskill Mountains is great. There are no other stretches to paddle along Hannacrois Creek than the Deans Mill to Hudson River stretch. The campgrounds here at Hannacrois Creek are pretty good. If you'll be staying in a hotel you're in luck, lodging is available very near the river, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. Great exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are sure to keep you coming back for more. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this is an area with plenty of places for that. Briefly about the general area: For the duration of the summer months at Hannacrois Creek highs are generally in the 80's. All through   the moonlight hours it's frequently in the 60's. The wintertime brings highs down to the 30's; night lows through the wintertime for Hannacrois Creek tend to be in the 10's.
