The Schaghticoke Dam to Powerhouse section of Hoosic River in New York is 2 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class V section. The scenic beauty of New York and the playfulness of the water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem and if you make reservations in     advance you're all set. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area you'll find lots of paddling rivers. The average New York whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be harder to run than those in other states, so keep in mind that rivers here are not as easy as elsewhere. This section is quite short so it's not like you're gonna spend hours on the river in one stretch. This is the only paddling section along Hoosic River. Great exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great reasons to come. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby.
