The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state are often tougher than in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that rivers here are less forgiving. The natural beauty of New York and the playfulness of the water will make you feel great. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. There are no other sections to paddle along Hoosic River than the Schaghticoke Dam     to Powerhouse section. This is a short paddling stretch so you'd better be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times. The put-in location is a short drive from Albany-Schenectady-Troy, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. A good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great attractions for lots of people. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way there are lots of good places for that around here.
