The wonderful Rensselaer County scenery and the cool fresh water will make you feel great. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in this state tend to be more challenging than the national average, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that quite
a few of the sections here are not easy. The starting location is a short drive from Albany-Schenectady-Troy, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. This section is quite short so better bring some good walking shoes. If you're a camper you
can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. The Schaghticoke Dam to Powerhouse section of Hoosic River in Rensselaer County is 2 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class V section. This is the only paddling section along Hoosic River. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just hanging out with mother nature have people coming from far and near. Since you're
on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way there are lots of good places for that around here.
