The nature scenery of New York and the playfulness of the water will make you feel great. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in New York is often more difficult than elsewhere, so keep in mind that the rivers in this state are less manageable. This section
of Hoosic River in Rensselaer County is 2 miles long and is a class V section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this is an area
with plenty of rivers for that. A good workout and just hanging out with mother nature are sure to keep you coming back for more. This is a pretty short section so no need to bring snacks. There are no other sections to paddle along Hoosic River than the Schaghticoke Dam to Powerhouse section. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick.
Briefly about the general area: From a precipitation point of view Hoosic River is a reasonably typical place; May is
the wettest month with most rain, and February on the other hand is the driest. Through the summer months, highs mostly are in the 80's at Hoosic River. Summer nighttime lows fall down to the 50's. Throughout the winter highs are in the 30's while the cold winter nights at Hoosic River are in the 0's.
