This section of Hudson River is 14 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class III-IV section. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often more difficult than elsewhere, so if you're not from around here don't forget that quite a few of the sections here are not easy. The beautiful scenery of Essex/ Hamilton/ Warren County and the playfulness of the water are
in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. Great exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great attractions for lots of people. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling
places. The wild scenery of the Adirondack Mountains is great. The campgrounds here at Hudson River are pretty good. The Indian River to North River section is one of a few paddling sections in this river system. This stretch has enough mileage for an overnight trip, so pack your sleeping bag.
Briefly about the general area: Hudson River gets a normal amount of rain; the month of August is the wettest with most of the rain; February is when it's the driest. For the period of the warm months at Hudson River highs are generally in the 70's.
