This stretch of Hudson River is 6.4 miles long and has been rated as a class I-V section by American Whitewater. If you're coming from Glens Falls it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. Great exercise and just being out on the river for a while have people coming from far and near. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way there are lots of good spots for that around here. This stretch has has enough mileage,
suitable for an afternoon trip. The Sherman Island to Feeder Dam stretch is one of many paddling stretches in this river system. The average New York whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be harder to run than those in other states, so better not forget that many runs in
this state are not easy. There are many good hotels to choose from, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. The beautiful scenery of New York and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream make the trip here worthwhile. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp.
Briefly about the general area: All through the days of summer at Hudson River highs are mostly in the 70's. Once the sun is down it sinks down to the 50's. All through the wintertime the highs are commonly in the
20's with temperatures at Hudson River dipping down into the 0's all through winter nights. The slopes of West Mountain are so inviting nobody can resist, and time spent at Haviland Cove Beach is always wonderful. The high level of precipitation makes Hudson River a reasonably wet place; the month of November is the wettest with most of the rain, and February meanwhile is the driest month.
