This section of Hudson River is 6.4 miles long and it is classified as a class I-V section by American Whitewater. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside New York you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so keep in mind that many of the sections here are not safe for beginners. This river system is full of great paddling stretches, the Sherman Island to Feeder Dam stretch is just one of     them. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area you'll find lots of paddling places. The wonderful New York scenery and the playfulness of the water have people coming here. No shortage of good hotels, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, it's good length for a morning trip. Getting some good exercise and just hanging out with mother nature are great attractions for lots of people. Briefly about the general area: Hudson River sees pretty high levels of precipitation; November is the wettest month with most rain, and February is when it's the driest. The skiing at West Mountain is nice, and a nice beach close by is Haviland Cove   Beach. During the summer here at Hudson River, high temperatures regularly get into the 70's, and through summer nights temperatures are in the 50's. High temperatures during the winter are normally in the 20's, and throughout the dark hours in the wintertime at Hudson River temperatures dip to the 0's.
