The put-in location is a short drive from Utica-Rome, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. The nature scenery of New York and the playfulness of the water make the trip here worthwhile. The campgrounds here at Independence River are pretty good. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, in this general area you'll find lots of paddling     places. This is a somewhat short section so you'll have to walk back to the start over and over. The Bradish Road to Old Pine Grove Road section is the only paddling section along Independence River. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in New York are often tougher than in other states, so you'd better keep in mind that many runs in this state are not easy. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick.
